West Oxfordshire Writers’ Group
WOW is an “open” writers’ group – we have no formal membership structure, and no restrictions or qualifying criteria. Because the majority of members have families, jobs and assorted other commitments, very few are able to get to every meeting. This natural ebb and flow means there are usually between five and ten members at each meeting.
The range of writing is huge … from fact to fiction, children’s stories to adult, shorts to epics, poetry … and there’s a very strong play/screen play ‘section’.
The next meeting is:
WOW meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month. They start at 7:30 pm, and usually finish at about 10 pm. We often have a ‘comfort’ break half way through … and this allows us to recharge our cups and glasses.
The Chequers – our usual venue
We usually meet in The Chequers, near the Theatre in Chipping Norton. The Landlord, Jim Hopcraft, is a published poet himself.
We use the back room known as the Barn Room (straight through the bar, past the restaurant to the end of the corridor).
Our fallback venue – The Fox Hotel
On some occasions we have to find an alternative venue, and this is The Fox Hotel. We meet in one of two rooms, both of which are up the stairs on the left in the main bar.
We are very fortunate to be supported by Jim at The Chequers and John at The Fox Hotel – they both provide the rooms without charge. We support them in return by each buying at least one drink during the meeting … both establishments have a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including tea and coffee.
